  Brilliant hostel, brilliant host!
We booked for an overnight stay on the way to a trip to Orkney. This hostel is a real find! From start to finish the booking process, welcome on arrival, comfort and hospitality was excellent. Marie is a superb host. She kept in touch and she was ready to welcome us when we arrived. She had the fire lit, the kettle on and essentials in the kitchen to make our stay comfortable. I personally think she went above and beyond any expectation! Wonderful welcome. The rooms are big, airy and very comfortable. Everything you need is ready. The place is immaculate and the shower room very well kitted out. Local knowledge was also most helpful (walks, hospitality available in area, shops etc. Truly unexpected as far as comfort and quality was concerned. This is a brilliant place - and THANK YOU Marie, and Mollie the Collie! Highly recommend this place.

  Brilliant hostel! Very homely and clean.
Marie was a lovely and friendly host. Everything we needed was supplied by our host. The bedrooms were super clean with fresh bedding and we had the best nights sleep! The private en suite in every room was perfect for more privacy and gave the hostel a luxury feel. Highly recommend staying here and only a 5 mins walk to the shop and restaurants/takeaways. Have to say that Molly the border collie was definitely my favourite part of our trip! We were here for a university fieldtrip and it was such a great place to come home to at the end of the day.   Wonderful stopover
Everything about Helmsdale Hostel was superb, from booking, to paying, my arrival, stay and departure. Marie is a lovely host and was so helpful with wet camping gear, local information, simple washing, and a delight to be welcomed by. The room was spotless, comfortable, airy and light and the bed as comfortable as I would wish. My only regret was that I had to leave early and was unable to say thank you and goodbye in person. I want to come back to Scotland if only to stay here again......

  Road Trip
One of the best hostels we have ever stayed in. Marie made us so welcome and had lots of suggestions for walks / places to visit in Helmsdale and nearby. Hostel was spotless. Room and ensuite spacious and a lovely garden to sit in and enjoy the sunshine. Common room / kitchen comfy and welcoming.

  Awesome Stop-off
A great night's stay in Helmsdale Hostel doing the NC500 GCN route. Made to feel very welcome at the hostel. With good storage for bikes, great hot showers after a days ride, plus it's perfectly located to other amenities (shops/pubs/restaurants). Facilities in the hostel were also great to make a cup of tea, sit and relax in the social area. Marie was fab - thank you

  Ideal location, spotless, and friendly welocome
We had a lovely overnight stay here. The room had recently been refurbished to a high standard and was spotless, as was the rest of the hostel. The COVID protocols were reassuring. We had a very friendly welcome and got informative information about getting a very good fish and chips, and pointed in a the direction of a walk that gave superb views of the village.   Spotless comfortable and Marie is the best!
We stayed in a family room at Helmsdale Hostel. It was modern spotless and very comfortable. A very generous and clean en-suite. The kitchen facilities were also excellent (no oven - but Marie helped us out there). Tidy and clean (please help to keep it that way!). And the lounge area was very comfortable with beautiful big windows and a log burning stove. On top of all of that - Marie was such an excellent host. We arrived to Helmsdale Hostel after a very low point in our trip and Marie was so friendly and kind. We really appreciated her Highland hospitality. It totally changed the outlook of our day. We only stayed 1 day, but should have stayed longer. Helmsdale is lovely and there are some excellent walks nearby. Thanks Marie!!

  Piccolo ma di qualità
Ottimo ostello, quasi intimo non essendo un casermone ma una struttura con un numero limitato di stanze. Gli spazi comuni sono ampi e accoglienti, sufficienti anche per tavolate numerose. Camere da 4 con letti a castello e bagno in camera, tutto molto pulito. Materassi non comodissimi ma per 1/2 notti va più che bene. Nonostante l'estate sarebbe opportuno cmq accendere i riscaldamenti al minimo (erano spenti). La Cucina è molto ben organizzata di grande portata, ma dopo le 22 la proprietaria non fa più cucinare. Ci sono il WiFi e codici per accedere all'ostello. Consigliato.

  Bellissimo
Molto pulito, piccolo ma accogliente, belli e puliti gli spazi comuni, con una cucina molto fornita e un grande giardino. La proprietaria è dolcissima e sempre molto disponibile. Assolutamente consigliato.
